Pediatric Chiropractic in Ballantyne
What Is Pediatric Chiropractic Care?
Pediatric chiropractic care involves checking babies and children for spinal misalignments, and then applying corrections as needed. Did you know that by the age of ten, the average child has sustained over 2,000 injuries? Each one of these injuries could cause subluxations to the spine, and often we aren’t able to see that our children are suffering in this way because a lot of times the symptoms that occur as a result of spinal misalignments don’t appear until your child ages into adulthood. We try to find and correct subluxations while they are still easy to fix and before they cause too much damage. This helps us prevent your child from having spinal issues further on in life.
At Ritchie Chiropractic & Wellness, we love to treat children, because children respond incredibly well to chiropractic care, and it’s very rewarding to us to set someone up for a healthy lifestyle as early as possible. We help children of all ages, from infants to teenagers, and often treat colic, sleep issues, ear infections, sports injuries, normal sprains and strains, and more. Children are often easier to treat than adults and respond very quickly to adjustments, so we are able to use very gentle techniques designed specifically for sensitive, smaller patients.
Pediatric chiropractic care is highly beneficial to growing children, because a huge piece of what we do is ensure that the spine and nervous system are growing and functioning at peak levels. We look at growth, milestones, and overall health, and expertly apply gentle adjustments that we believe are essential for achieving good health.
When you bring your child in for a chiropractic adjustment, no extra preparation is required. We may ask questions about birth, diet, and medication history, and will perform a thorough consultation, history, and examination of the spine. We like to gather information on lifestyle factors like nutrition, sleep, and stress that may need changes in order to support the benefits of adjustment. We don’t typically take x-rays on children unless they are suffering from an acute injury. Once we have gathered all necessary information, we perform an adjustment.
Your child’s adjustment will be applied with a handheld tool with the Activator method. We use a very gentle technique and never put excessive force into pediatric adjustments. If your child is scared, we will let them explore the Activator device and may even postpone adjusting until they feel comfortable in our office and trust us enough to provide them care.
